This interface is meant to allow us to wire up a widget's properties to a
PidginDisplayItem's needs-attention and badge-number properties.

I'm not sure how I can fix this via this pull request as the old patch/branch are long gone and I wouldn't be able to rebase anyways, so instead I've created /r/3251 to fix this.
